Modularity

Modularity Stock Image - Crossection

The perFORM[D]ance House is modular to allow for ease of assembly and transportability. Some of the house features were specifically designed for the temporary exhibit of the solar decathlon competition. Since our house is not located at a permanent location, temporary foundations are necessary. We also had to incorporate modular water storage tanks into our design to supply fresh water to the house for various contests throughout competition week. The solar village operates off of its own independent electric grid. All of the houses are tied into this grid where we can buy/sell electricity when needed.

How does this affect us?

The modular design of the house and deck allow for quick and easy assembly and disassembly. Water and electrical service can be adapted to a local grid connection.

The house is designed with transportation in mind. The modular components fit seamlessly on the back of a flat-bed truck. This enables the house to change location if needed.

The pavilion inspired design of the house paired with its modular features defines a building typology appropriate for tropical and subtropical regions all around the world.
